My Review of The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene
Yay! My first ever Nancy Drew read!
I used to play the PC games growing up, and my mom was a huge fan of hers back in the day also. It was a pleasure to finally get to start on the series.
This book was a lot calmer than the games are, so that was a positive thing. I always feel such suspense when I play the games and it makes me so scared to play (I have bad anxiety so when stuff scares me, it's intense) because I'm waiting for something huge to happen. The book was good about putting me in suspense, but also not putting me in so much suspense that I was extremely jumpy waiting for what was going to happen next.
In this book, Nancy is on a mission to find out why the deceased Josiah Crowley only named the Topham family as the people who were to inherit money from his estate in his will instead of including them and also all of his relatives. Nancy is determined to find the rumored missing will that Josiah has hidden for safe keeping. She must go through many hardships to find it, including being locked up by a band of furniture thieves!
In the end, Nancy's great detective skills lead her to the missing will and all of Josiah's relatives are given the money they deserve. The ending also foreshadows Nancy's involvement in the next case (which also happens to be the next book in the series).
This was a read that I have dying to get after for years and I'm so happy I finally did. This will not be the end of Nancy Drew for me, that's for sure! I do recommend this to anyone looking for a good mystery to dig into. You won't regret it, trust me!
